A glimpse into the what could have been…
Detroit, City On The Move was a campaign created to showcase Detroit in their bid for the 1968 summer Olympics.
The video, shot in 1965, starts with the Mayor proclaiming that the city is in its finest hour. Sadly, it seems as though with the loss of the games (which ended up being held in Mexico City) – the time ran out.
In a rather haunting way, it captures the thoughts of and visions of city that had no idea what the future would hold. New horizons and a renaissance may not have materialized so quickly, and are much needed here in 2013 in order to restore the city once containing 2 million people.
