The Old Neighborhood 2

This week’s feature of an older home in an older neighborhood at an affordable price is this humble abode that is rich in character.

My research shows home values between $85,000 – $115,000 for properties around it. What I like about this home (other than the fact that it’s not a cookie-cutter house) is the detail around the home.

From the color palette, to the columns, to the choice of siding, and even the mailbox…it most certainly lends itself to being an interesting asset to the block. It’s within walking distance to downtown and bikeable to the riverfront.

Sure, it could use a fresh coat of white on the columns and a good weekend of landscaping (we just came out of winter), but my intentions aren’t to cherry pick every single one of the best houses in town. There is a lot of hidden potential within our current real estate market. It’s not always the most expensive or the newest-built homes that are the nicest.

  1. Love this blog! This is exactly what the Peoria area needs to hear, and especially from the younger generation. We love our older home and hope to always live here, “small” though it may be by moden thinking standards. Long live old buildings and beautiful things!

    1. Thanks Deidre, I appreciate you reading! The Peoria area is full of hidden gems, one of the reasons I chose to move here. It’s easy to get swept away in the negative, but if there is a different movement, then maybe a solution to some of those problems could be found quicker.
